Josh is an aspiring actor I met by chance a few years ago on a film set, where we discovered that we'd both worked on ships, and proceeded to discuss all things cruisy.
His cruise ship career has to date been brief, but nonetheless eventful. After only a couple of contracts under his belt, he managed to land the Cruise Director position and he and I discuss how the thousands of crew members were left at sea during Covid. We also discuss a guest who hung himself inside of his stateroom.
It is such a disgrace how much of the world was unaware of the issues crew members faced during Covid. Some crew were out there for more than 8 months. It is very disheartening to know that guests end their lives onboard too. Death is too common on ships. t is a vast reminder of the lack of mental health support that there is onboard and as cruise ships continue to profit better than ever, why isn't this an area for them to focus on?
